The 5th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2017, 6-9:30pm at the Crest Hollow Country Club, Woodbury, NY. This gala event was created to offer formal acknowledgement to some of Long Island's most effective and innovative nonprofit organizations. NEW YORK COURT SAYS DEUTSCHE BANK MUST PAY $110 MILLION FOR BREACH OF DERIVATIVES CONTRACT

On January 24, 2017, New York’s Appellate Division, First Department, affirmed a $93.9 million trial verdict in favor of Good Hill Partners, a Connecticut-based hedge fund, against Deutsche Bank, in a case involving credit default swaps. After a five-day bench trial in 2015, Justice O. Peter Sherwood of the New York County Supreme Court awarded Good Hill: $22.1 million in damages for Deutsche Bank’s breach of a swap contract as a result of its failure to return Good Hill’s collateral, $3.75 million in attorneys’ fees, and $68 million in pre-judgment interest at the default rate, which continues to accrue during the appeal, bringing the current amount of the judgment to over $110 million. Second Life Atlanta, a six-year old nonprofit thrift store in metro Atlanta thinks homeless pets are worth a million dollars. And store owners and co-founders Toby and Tanya Tobias want to make sure they get it. Inspired by a Dalmatian named Lucky who was deemed  "unadoptable" - that is, until the Tobias' adopted him - Tanya left a career at Delta Airlines and she and Toby opened Second Life Atlanta in Avondale Estates, Georgia, in early 2011. The early months were rough but the store's varied merchandise and mission caught on and by late 2016 Second Life had given grants to over 60 Atlanta and Georgia pet rescues and animal charities totalling $760,000 while operating Second Life with a handful of employees and a few dedicated volunteers.
